About This Spot

Stepping into The Salt House Kitchen feels like finding a welcoming pause by the seaside—a place where the gentle hum of conversation and the soft crackle from the fireplace invite you to settle in and simply be. Nestled on Seaburn’s vibrant seafront, this spot carries the warmth of a family kitchen with the relaxed energy of a bistro that knows its neighbors. The atmosphere balances effortlessly between lively and laid-back, with a subtle soundtrack weaving nostalgia without ever overpowering the easygoing mood.

Whether you arrive in the early hours for a breakfast that feels thoughtfully crafted—imagine the comforting scent of fresh coffee blending with the sizzle from the kitchen—or pop in later for a casual lunch where locally sourced ingredients tell their own story, The Salt House Kitchen offers a consistent sense of belonging. Here, Sundays unfold at a gentler pace, as plates of roast and homemade puddings are shared among friends and families, grounding the day in rich flavors and shared moments.

The interiors reflect both style and soul, a tasteful blend of clean lines softened by cozy corners and inviting lounge spaces, including those fireplace seats that become a small sanctuary after a bracing coastline stroll. It’s a place where cocktails and carefully brewed coffees alike find their place alongside conversations that stretch comfortably across the table.

What sets this place apart, beyond the menu of well-executed British classics and café favorites, is its quietly confident hospitality. Staff move with ease and genuine attentiveness, creating an environment where you feel seen but never hurried. Whether you’re lingering over afternoon tea with oversized scones or savoring freshly made sandwiches as the tide turns outside, there’s a satisfying sense that you’re part of something authentic.

In every visit, The Salt House Kitchen manages to capture the charm of seaside life with an understated elegance, making it less about the act of dining, and more about the time spent—surrounded by warmth, good company, and thoughtfully prepared food that invites you to return again and again.

Fantastic food, I had the Lamb Kofta, excellent presentation and lovely flavour. My Dad had the scampi which he really enjoyed. Mum had the tomato soup and a fig scone which was epic in size and really nice. The staff were lovely and the place had a nice atmosphere. Fantastic 90's dance music very much in the background so it was there but not intrusive. Took me back to my clubbing days. I would highly recommend and will return

This time of year beckons seaside walks and what better way to take shelter from the chill air than Salt House Kitchen. On arrival we were guided over to fireplace seats and after our order taken we could sit back to watch the fire, passers-by and appreciate the beautifully decorated restaurant. We had teas, lattes and two ginormous scones; one cheese, one fruit. This place may actually be famous for the size of them. They had plenty of other cakes and treats including a couple vegan options which is always appreciated! They were both divine and the fruit scone came with jam and cream which was delightful. If you're thinking about dropping in. Do it. Get your mouth around on of them.

Super place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Amazing decor clean stylish but very welcoming, friendly staff with great attitude to customers. Food is excellent. Please don't miss this when out for a seafront stroll.

Late lunch, warm welcome by staff, good menu & specials choice - scampi & fries, homemade fishcakes & sweet potato fries followed by plum & ginger crumble with custard. Delicious as always. Always visit when we come to the NE. Thank you.

Very popular café bar on the seafront. The choice of menus is excellent with a specials board. Locally sourced and home made food make this beautifully decorated café worth a visit.

Pleasant walk along seafront and chose the salt house kitchen for mine and the wife’s stop off. Quite pleased we did as well, we found a table outside no problem and our order was taken almost immediately. Our drinks came straight away but our sandwiches were a bit of time which proved to me they were freshly prepared. I had the fish fingers and wife had the steak. Both were top class and we will be back again. Thank you

Quite simply, brilliant. Perfectly conceptualised and executed dishes. Exquisitely delicious. Really friendly staff and just a lovely place serving delicious food, scones and cakes. Good vegan options too.

Stopped here after searching for a gluten-free place in Seaburn, lovely independent café the proprietor or manager was really friendly and helpful. Managed to bag a gluten-free vegan cake to go! How rare and exciting! Also almond milk flat white which was delicious. They also do gluten-free food options I've had a fish finger sandwich. Hassle free heaven!
